He stated that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however emphasised that security is a issue in every contemporary cars.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles represent a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is not to plug MoD devices into their car, to avoid having conversations at a secret classification in any vehicle, due to the growing threats of surveillance that exist in every single automobile, to only have those secret conversations in protected areas. That’s a wise and reasonable thing for everyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to stop using every cars from China, the minister responded: ‘That’s exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

The announcement comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off public transport and cause disruption to public transit.
