Automobiles in Germany's Town Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a man who found a automobile in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.

Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Police then found numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials state initial examinations show the substance was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for details.

A high-ranking representative said the incident left him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
